It was Chuseok in Korea and my friend and I wanted some real nice authentic Korean food. We were missing Korea and this was a good excuse to ball out.
Our first attempt to get Korean yum yums for Chuseok was at Arirang BBQ. I had never heard of it but earlier that night my other friend mentioned he was going there. I should have known better after I had checked the address. It’s in the plaza next to the Owl of Minerva in Mississauga.
We arrived at the restaurant and I immediately knew something was wrong. It wasn’t the real Korean BBQ. It looked like the buffet style BBQ, which isn’t ever the real style. The meat was a bit like a mystery and didn’t look like what it should taste like. I’m not even sure if they even use the right parts.
In addition there was a line up even though a few tables just had to be cleaned. What ended up happening was the worst service I’ve ever experienced. After waiting a good 10 minutes the waitress finally came around to asking us how many in our group. I said two, she looked around saw that some tables needed cleaning, and asked us to have a seat in the waiting area. She returned to the kitchen to grab more food for the tables already eating, and completely ignored the people lined up behind us. She, nor the rest of the staff, asked the people in line to also have a seat on the “waiting seats”. I couldn’t understand, mind blown in completely the wrong way.
I would have left sooner, but I thought they were closer to seating us the longer I waited. Minutes, hours and days passed and after waiting for at least 15 minutes I finally made the decision to leave. I don’t know what kind of money the other customers were throwing at the staff to get service.
I don’t know how to end this without sounding harsh, but I would highly recommend not going here.
Our second attempt to get our Chuseok on resulted in amazingness. You can see the review here, and it was totally worth the first rejection. It might have been fate.
